Dialog for Puppet Show – Concerning Love
Puppet #1: You know -- It seems that nothing ever changes –
No matter what we try to do –
No matter how much we go to the temple or church.
Puppet #2: You're right!
But – What are we to do?
We have to follow the teachings of the priests.
We have to do what is right.
Voice: May I tell you a story that may help you to understand
And to make a true difference in your lives
And in your world?
Puppet #1: Who said that?
Where does this voice come from?
Puppet #2: Does it matter?
It will not hurt for us to listen.
Maybe we will learn something new.
Puppet #1: Well, – OK.
Go ahead and tell us your story.
Voice: Once upon a time in a land far – far away,
The followers of the man you know as Jesus,
Who was a Nazori,
Were given only Two great Commandments to follow,
First, to Love God with body, heart, mind, spirit and soul
And
Second, to love their fellow man as themselves.
Puppet #1: What are you saying?
Puppet #2: Yea – What about all the other commandments?
Voice: These two commandments replace all the others.
They are the essence of the law and the
Teachings of all the prophets.
Puppet #1: No Way!
This cannot be acceptable!
Puppet #2: What about the required sacrifices?
The required offerings?
Voice: Have you not read in your law
that God does not require the sacrifice of animals
or mandatory offerings?
He wants you to have an open and loving heart!
He wants you to bring your offerings for His service
Based on the love you have for His work!
Puppet #2: I haven't read the law.
The priests say it is too hard
For an unlearned person to understand.
But,
The priests have not said these things to us.
Puppet #1: Why haven't they told us these things?
Voice: Maybe they are more interested in making money,
Personal gain, or
Controlling the people,
Than in speaking the Truth
As instructed by God.
Puppet #1: This cannot be!
They are supposed to be
Our guides and shepherds and teachers.
Puppet #2: No – This cannot be!
We trust them to instruct us in the proper way
To worship and serve God.
Voice: How have they taught you to worship and serve God?
Puppet #1: To bring our sacrifices and offerings to the church
Or temple on the Sabbath so that
He will not be angry with us.
Puppet #2: They have taught us to fear God
Because He is a vengeful God.
If we do not want to incur His wrath,
We must follow their instructions.
Voice: Where do they teach you that God is
And
How you should relate to Him?
Puppet #1: They say God is somewhere in the Heavens.
Puppet #2: That's right, and
They say God is far beyond our comprehension.
Puppet #1: Yes, they tell us they represent God to us
And
Only they have direct access to Him.
Puppet #2: Isn't that the way it is?
Voice: NO!!
Puppet #1: Then, Tell us the Truth!
Puppet #2: Yes, Tell us the proper way
To worship and serve God!
Voice: Are you ready to hear the Truth?
Are you ready to know and
live in accord with the Truth?
Puppet #2: Yes, This is what we want to do!
Puppet #1: Well – Let's see what you say the truth is –
Then we will decide -- what we will do.
Voice: It is written that all of you are Children
Of the Most High God.
As His children you may properly relate to Him
As a loving Father.
When you relate to Him in this way,
He will love you and care for you
As your very parent.
As a parent – He wants your love,
Not for you to live in fear of Him.
Puppet #1: That's hard to believe –
Why aren't we taught this?
Puppet #2: Yea! And we are told
That just the members of our faith group are protected
By God.
This is what the priest teach us!
Voice: I will not say why you are taught this.
But all are God's children.
Each person, male or female,
Has direct access to Him
When they but realize that this is true.
God, Himself, Loves you.
Is this so hard to believe?
Puppet#1: It would be nice to believe this,
But it seems too simple!
Puppet #2: How can those who believe differently
Or look different
And worship in different ways
All be Children of God?
Voice: It is simple –
But
Few want to truly believe.
Now –
Open your eyes and your ears.
Look around you.
God did not make any two of His Children exactly alike.
Each is Unique.
Each has their own personality and appearance.
Each has a different manner of dress which they prefer.
Now
Expand this a little,
Those whom you meet from a different part of the country –
Speak and dress and act in different ways too.
Is what I have described not true?
Puppet #1: Yes, But –
Puppet #2: OK – Tell us more if you will.
Voice: As humanity was developing and learning on different parts of the earth,
They met with different situations and needed instructions
Which would aid them in their proper development.
Different languages, different words, and different dress, etc.
To deal with their environment and their state of development.
Yes,
God gives to each of His Children instruction in a manner which
They can relate to and understand and
Use in their daily living.
Puppet #1: If this is true – What must we do?
Puppet #2: Yes, what must we do?
Voice: Love God as your Father;
Love Him with body, mind, spirit, and soul,
24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Love your brothers and sisters, from all nations, languages,
And Faiths as you love yourself,
For you are truly One Family.
Make each day a sacred day, a Holy day.
And,
As a Child of God, be aware that God is with you
In all that you do with love and a clear conscience.
If you do this,
God will not leave you or forsake you.
Will you do this?
Puppet #1: Baa – Humbug –
This cannot be –
This is impossible.
Puppet #2: Oh – Be quiet!
I think this may be true –
I will consider and examine this way –
This instruction.
Voice: Yes, Each must decide for themselves,
To reject or accept what you have heard.
There is no compulsion in a true religion.
God wants your love
So each must find their own way in their own time.
Puppet #2: Let's pray about what we have heard today.
Let's search our hearts to see if it is true.
Puppet #1: Bah ----- No!
I will hold to the tradition as taught by the priests.
It must be the right way.
They would not lead us astray!
NO! NO! NO!
This cannot be.
Puppet #2: Do what you will !!
BUT
I will pray for guidance and
Then do what is pleasing to God.
LOVE MUST BE THE WAY.
YES!!
LOVE MUST BE THE WAY!
