Erik Larson, who previously wrote Devil in The White City, and most recently, Thunderstruck, has an interesting style. His approach is to follow two plot lines with an eventual intersection. In Devil in The White City he followed the architectural development of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and the serial murderer Dr. H.H. Holmes. In Thunderstruck, he follows the technological efforts of Guglielmo Marconi and wireless telegraphy and the famous Dr. Crippen murder story. You have to appreciate the two track approach...history and murder plot lines intersecting to appreciate his works. I do, but I realize many would prefer just one or the other. I enjoy how he brings to life locations and the background stories to historical events..the light...and the concurrent dark plot line...murder.
I know that film rights to Devil in The White City have been purchased by Paramount and a movie should be forthcoming in the near future.
