Hello! I was pleased to find this forum recently while searching for a local church or fellowship (Austin, TX area) that might share in my beliefs and help me in my growth. My informal studies over the last few years have made it clear to me that I cannot accept the mainstream Christian beliefs, and I was initially elated when I began to explore Unitarianism, only to be disappointed by what I learned about the UUA and it's churches in my area, with their (over)emphasis on political and social activism.
Perhaps the AUC is a better place for me? In all my readings I seem to have the greatest affinity for the deism of Payne and Jefferson, or the stoicism of Epictetus and Seneca, but find much value in trying to uncover the true teachings of Jesus. I'm an (odd?) mix of liberal and conservative views, bordering on libertarian perhaps, and do not think I could ever feel at home in the UUA.
Might I ask what is the state of the AUC today? I had initially sent an email to the "contact" address, and got no reply after many days. I tried contacting some of the affiliated congregations, only to hit dead ends. Some of the website information seems outdated. Is it still accepting membership, and still developing congregations?
While I hope I can find some of what I'm searching for on this forum, I'd really like to find a group of like-minded individuals in the Austin/Dripping Springs area of TX that would want to form a fellowship group (the main thing I miss about my days as a Presbyterian).
Hope you will welcome me to your forum!
