I am Myron Mason, a pleasure to meet you all. I must say that I have been a Unitarian for sometime now and want to say how happy I am to meet others that share my Unitarian beliefs. But from what I have heard from some people is that I will not fit in the AUC as they say I am too progressive/liberal and open-minded for the AUC which they say is a very conservative theology. I disagree with them as Unitarians in contrast to non trinitarians are very open minded, at least the ones I have met are. What do you all say? Is the AUC truly conservative?

Your brother in Elohim,

Myron Mason
Hello Myron,

If you find the religious principles of the AUC resonant then you likely belong here. As for "conservative" versus "liberal" we are more theologically focused than many forms of U*Uism, but there is a great deal of room for understanding, experiencing, and worshipping God.

In any case, welcome to the AUC forum and I hope you find food for your soul here.
Thank you ndemay. I am indeed looking for a more religious and spiritual form of worship that focuses on Unitarianism, but I will not let this prevent me from understanding and exploring other religious beliefs and ceremonies. I plan to attend the UU church in Baltimore when I can, to see how the members there worship and treat me. But I still prefer that there was a theologically Unitarian church in Baltimore. And when I mean Liberal and Conservative, I meant in a theological and social manner. Like, I do not believe in biblical inerrancy, the immaculate conception, a vengeful god of the pentateuch, eternal Hell, Homosexuality as a sin, etc are all theological liberal beliefs.
You would have a hard time finding anyone here who accepts biblical inerrancy, immaculate conception, an angry god, hell (eternal or otherwise), homosexuality as sin (I am gay as are some other members; it's been a non-issue from day 1, and I've been w/ the AUC for 7 or 8 years now). I suggest you read the articles on the site here to get a taste of the range of ideas; you will see a variety of views from those who are more Christian in their faith, to those like myself whose faith is in a broader "universal" monotheism.

Best wishes in your spiritual journey.
Ah I knew it. I knew the AUC was not as conservative as many UU's make it seem. I already figured from reading the site's articles that it was not as conservative as many thought. I just wanted to hear someone else's opinion.
Welcome, SC. Take a look around. I wouldn't call the AUC conservative at all. Guess it depends on where you're sittin'.

Welcome Myron, I hope you find this site a valuable resource and place to chat. Theologically there is diversity but we orient around some common principles.

Sometimes you may see non-theological discussion that may reveal the authors general "political" persuasion..be it conservative, moderate or liberal....however, we always try to keep it very respectful and with the point of view of either news sharing and discussion or solcitation for opinion etc.

Best wishes in finding a local church community that appeals to you.
Welcome Myron,

I will look forward to reading your posts here. I have enjoyed reading your writings on Beliefnet.

With love,

Rev Dorris
Thank you all for welcoming me Smile.
Hi Starcomet and welcome. I definitely would not call the AUC conservative. I have to wonder just how liberal someone would have to be to even think that?

At least my experience so far has shown me that everyone here seems very liberal and progressive. Welcome and God bless.
