Hamas Cleric Predicts 'Rome Will Be Conquered by Islam'

Monday, April 14, 2008

"The fiery sermon, delivered by Yunis al-Astal and aired on Hamas' Al-Aqsa TV, predicted that Rome would become "an advanced post for the Islamic conquests, which will spread though Europe in its entirety, and then will turn to the two Americas, even Eastern Europe."

Gee, maybe Jimmy Carter can hug him and convince him of the error of his ways.

Where are the street protests? Do people protest Islamic fools?  Will there be a rally in the Vatican?  Maybe a new "crusade" is is not that far fetched if things keep moving down the extremist road.
"Do people protest Islamic fools?"

Why feed the trolls? These folks are so far out that they are ignored by mainstream muslims. I mean think about it-when Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson said dumb things in the past, were there uprisings anywhere? Rolling eyes maybe, but that's it. Additionally, given the public baptism of a nominal Muslim by the Pope at Easter, I think the cleric in question is feeling a little jealous.

Also, I think calling for violence is inappropriate; we keep killing (we being humanity) each other for political/ideological reasons but it doesn't accomplish much but more killing. Defense is one thing, but the Crusades were a dark period in human history based on ignorance, superstition and greed. These are not Unitarian values.

Finally, regarding Carter & Hamas, the US cannot go around the world "planting democracy" and then complain when we don't like election results. It's not different than liberals complaining about the last two major US elections; I wasn't happy with the results, but there was no election tampering, etc.
I said the "crusade" in jest to the nut jobs who dominate Islam today....as they protest and call for Jihad at every opportunity. If the Pope said we would clean the Middle East of Islam you can bet the nuts would be burning effigies and screaming.

Carter is a hopeless fool....whether a govt is elected or not we certainly have reason to oppose it. Hamas are clearly terrorists...and they have not given the slightest interest to "peace" with Israel.

Being a Unitarian does not mean you must be blind to evil. This Islamic radicalism will be a constant problem for generations.
Nope, we shouldn't be blind to evil; but we shouldn't be looking for bogeymen under every bed either.

I agree that Carter's errand won't result in anything tangible. And I agree that Hamas is a violent group. But neither the Palestinian Authority nor the Israeli government are making much effort towards peace. Maybe I'm crazy, but how hard is it to start treating one's fellow human beings with decency and respect? The US hasn't always lived up to the ideals human rights, but we certainly have tried and struggled. I don't see much effort from Israel or Hamas.
One of the major road blocks has been that the Palestinians have been and are being used as proxies by other Arab governments.....I see no peace in the region in our lifetime.
Hamas and Fatah hate each other...so they have to sort it out first befoe anything can be accomplished with Israel.

Too much of humanity resides at the lowest level of development...we are still dealing with tribal organizations across the Middle East and Africa.

Newt makes some great points here....
"One of the major road blocks has been that the Palestinians have been and are being used as proxies by other Arab governments"

Very true; other Arab states can't be all that concerned when they themselves have been less than welcoming of their Palestinian brethren.
The Arab governments focus their propaganda and hatred on Israel and "Zionist" injustices toward the Palestinians in order to deflect criticism from the pathetic conditions in their own countries.

Also, I love the comment about being blind to evil. Seems that many in this country are so busy being victims that they cannot recognize true evil when they see it or are confronted by it. Or are even attacked by it. It makes me wonder about our future. . .
