Good morning from North Carolina!

I am a woman in my mid-thirties living in Central NC with my husband and our cat. Currently, I am a member of a local Disciples church that I appreciate, as well as being a member of an ecumenical religious order. But to be completely honest, I know that the church I'm in isn't a 100% perfect fit.

I have a very long faith story, but I think my first question is whether the AUC is still pretty functional at the current time. I read the information available online through the San Diego congregation, and was stunned by how dead-on it is to my own religious ideas and faith. It looks like there were quite a few other folks interested in starting congregations, or at least fellowships... are these still in progress? Smile

Anyway, thank you for this wonderful information!

Hi Jenn,

Welcome to the forum.

With love,

Rev Dorris
Welcome!  Not sure about about any local fellowships in your area....do you guage similar interest with some of your friends or DOC members?

Fortunately, you have a DOC church that is probably a pretty good alternative, but as you said, not 100%.  Maybe the church would welcome being an Open Door congregation?

See the info under Congregations:
----------------------------------
How the Open Door Program Works

The congregation’s governing body must formally agree to become an AUC Open Door Congregation. Open Door Congregations agree to be open and welcoming to AUC members.

The AUC will list the congregation as an Open Door Congregation on its web site and will place a link to the congregation’s web site on the AUC web site. The AUC will refer people who make inquiries about congregations to the congregation if they live nearby. The AUC will notify its members that live in the area that the congregation has become an Open Door Congregation. The AUC will note that the congregation has become an Open Door Congregation in its quarterly journal, distributed to all members.

The Open Door Congregation status is permanent until either the congregation or the AUC discontinues the status. The AUC reserves the right to discontinue the status in the very unlikely event that the congregation is not in fact open and welcoming to AUC members or if the congregation takes actions that are inconsistent with its religious or governing principles.
