Full Version: What can we as a Community do?

In the Unitarian Community Group, it was suggested that young people and old people have some basic needs that are not being addressed by their religious community.

Individuals need:

"To be understood , loved and treated with respect.

To feel like a valued member of their family as well as in their church community.

To know that no matter what their problems are  or how different their questions and answers are from the mainstream that they will be looked upon without judgement and ridicule for thinking a little differently."

This initial idea was put forward by: Paulette(Melissa)

What can the Unitarian Community do to focus on meeting these needs?  How can this be accomplished in a loving and straight forward way?  How can we work together to let others know that there is a Community that is working together to meet these needs?

One thing a person can do is postering. A poster relating to Unitarian Community would need to clearly explain that their are groups of Unitarians that are not atheist or agnostic.

When I produce a poster, I prefer fairly large print, as posters are read at all hours of the day and night and on dark, overcast days, and are read by individuals whose eyesight--like mine--has dimmed with age.

Postering is time consuming. Putting up even 100 posters requires quite a few hours and much leg work.

I usually find suitable bulletin boards for posters in churches, food coops, coffee shops, laundromats, and many on college campuses.

Good idea John.

Another idea that I like is to put license plates on the front of our cars, with a simple message: "Proud to be a Unitarian" or "Proud to be a member of the Unitarian Community."

If people see it, maybe they will stop and ask you, "What is a Unitarian?" or a similar question that will show you that they are interested in learning more.

With love,

Rev Dorris
