Rev Dorris, I hope it is okay to reply to this thread. If not, feel free to move or delete my responses, okay?

1. Do you believe there is One God or Supreme Being over all others?

**Yes. One God. But I see God as more of a be-ing than as a person. In other words, I don't believe God is an old man up in the sky who is pulling strings to make things happen on earth. I see God as the be-ing of love, joy, peace, justice - a spirit who can't be confined to locale or to label.

2. Do you believe there are many acceptable but different paths or ways to worship and relate to this One God?

**Yes. But I believe that some paths are easier or less rocky than others.

3. Do you believe that as humankind develops more things are revealed to increase our understanding?

**Yes. But I also believe in valuing the spiritual paths of history, trying to understand them in their context.

4. Do you believe that humanity is all part of one family?

**Definately. But I believe some family members are more mature than others. Smile

5. Do you believe in supporting humanitarian efforts?

**Most definately. My thought on this, as a suggestion, is that every person who claims to follow Jesus be involved in at least one humanitarian effort, even if that effort is "secular".

6. Do you believe we should work for the good of our communities?

**Yes. I believe the church (a group of people trying to live out their faith in God) exist to serve the community, not to build a shelter away from it.

7. Do you believe individuals have the right to question what they are told to believe?

**Yes. In fact, I believe it is their duty as moral human beings to do so.

8. Do you believe life is a journey of growth and learning?

**Yes. I believe faith is the same thing.

9. Do you believe individuals are responsible for their actions?

**Yes. This is why I don't blame "bad things" on the devil or demons or "good things" on God. And I also believe in mercy.

10. Do you believe in sharing what you have learned and in promoting love, harmony, and peace?

**Yes.

If you answered “Yes” to each of these questions; there is no-doubt that you are a Unitarian; welcome to be part of the “Unitarian Community.”

**Rev Doris, I would appreciate any feedback you might have on my above answers.
Hi Bill,

I welcome any and all replies to what I post.

Mine is just one voice in the AUC and in the Unitarian Community. I hope that people do not have the impression that they cannot have or post contrary views and opinions.

As to your answers. I thought they were excellent. They were thoughtful and reflected your deep held feelings and views. I also agree with each of your statements.

With love,

Rev Dorris
I agree as well - those were some great insights. BTW, I used to think I was an atheist and humanist as I did not believe in the "person in the sky" view of God. It took me a while to figure out that I did believe in God but just not what I had been taught as a child to consider God (and I got that insight through Buddhism - fancy that).

Thanks, Robert and Dave. It's good to find a place, both spiritually and online, where one is free to explore what God means to us in a personal way without having to toe a doctrinal line.
