Hi
My name is Eugene Search and I am a UU seminarian at LTSP in Philadelphia. I am a member of UUCF and also a big fan of your work to restore American Unitarianism.
Welcome Eugene! Great to have you!
Interesting....a UU at a Lutheran school...how does that work? Must make for some challenging conversations!
I would assume you get a full Lutheran theological curriculum and would be (or expected to be) ordained Lutheran. Is that a necessary part of the divinity degree? Or, can you collect the degree and then become ordained elsewhere?
LTSP is an ELCA affiliated seminary but it has an ecumenical student body with seminarians from the ECUSA, UCC, AME, Mennonites, and even a couple of UU's among others. The seminary works with your regional sub-commitee to make sure you meet their academic requirements for ordination. This is done in the same way as with other local schools used by the Joseph Priestley district such as Lancaster Seminary, which has a considerable UU population and is UCC affiliated. That being said I did have to take Lutheran Confessions!, but they counted it as my ecummenical/hazing requirement. I will probably have to take my UU polity courses through Meadville-Lombard, but it has been a great experience.
