Rev. Dorris,

At first I thought this was quite a find but it appears the word "our" Father should be "my" Father from the versions I have read:

27. Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by "our" Father in heaven. Mat 18.19

It is interesting how often Jesus proclaims your Father and my Father (= our Father)...there is no indication of self identification.

You are correct in pointing out that most translations use the word "my" in this verse.  This does not make it right or convey the true meaning of what Jesus taught.  When he taught us to pray, he used the term "Our Father".  This takes priority, in my view, over the words used by the translators, and scribes.

Jesus did not want to be worshiped.  He did not want his teachings identified as his own. "The words I speak are not mine, but His who sent me." He always pointed the way to the Father.  In using the term "our Father" we are being true to what he taught and its meaning. (This of course is my opinion.)  He also taught us that we should eliminate the portions of those teachings which were added for his self glorification.

With love,

Rev Dorris
