"Shall the Fundamentalists Win" - by Harry Emerson Fosdick
This Sermon, given by American Baptist Minister H. E. Fosdick while serving the First Presbyterian Church in New York City in 1922, started a year long controversy in that city between the fundamentalists and the modernists. Fosdick makes his case that the Fundamentalist Christian movement that was sweeping the nation at the time should not be allowed to close the door of Christendom to those that hold more liberal Christian views. He argues that the expansion of human knowledge is not something in conflict with religion, but in concert with it.
