Remembering to Love

When I was new to my UU church's Board of Trustees, I was listening to all the opinions being argued back and forth and seeing all the venom that was behind some of them. I was just about to join in when it dawned on me: Wait! I love these people, and I'd far rather not get my way or even not be heard at all than to hurt any of them. Keeping this in mind helps me get less heated over differences of opinion, including the one between the UUA and the AUC. In the end, what matters most is to have a heart large enough to love not only those who are like us, but those who are not.
